DIY Felt Thanksgiving Pies
Here are the pies I made for my reversible Thanksgiving pie and Christmas peppermint garland. If you want to check out the written tutorial for the garland, click here. If you’re looking for the pies themselves, continue reading!

MATERIALS
– Felt sheets in various colors: Light brown (crust), Dark brown (chocolate, pecan, or coconut base), Orange (pumpkin), Dark red (cherry), Dark blue (blueberry), Light yellow or cream (banana cream), White (whipped cream and topping details)
– Hot glue gun and glue sticks
– Scissors
– Permanent marker for banana slice details

OVERALL NOTES
– The “flavors” I made were **pumpkin with whipped cream, chocolate cream, cherry, blueberry, banana cream, pecan, and coconut cream.**
– Each pie is made completely from **felt and hot glue**, no sewing required
– Every pie uses the same basic crust — a **light brown felt base** with **two thin strips twisted together** to form the crust edge. Once you have that down, the rest is just decorating!
PIE TUTORIALS
1. CHERRY PIE
– Use **dark red felt** for the inner cherry filling.
– Cut thin strips of **light brown felt** and weave them in a **basket pattern** over the red circle to create the lattice crust.
– Glue the strips as you go to keep the layers flat.
2. PUMPKIN PIE
– Use **orange felt** for the pumpkin filling.
– To make the **whipped cream**, cut **two white felt circles** and make a small slit in each one.
– Link them together and force overlaps or wedges in a few spots as you glue them down to create a raised, dollop-like texture.
3. PECAN PIE
– Use **dark brown felt** for the filling.
– Hobby Lobby carries a **thicker, stiffer tortoise-brown felt** — perfect for the pecans.
– Cut into thin strips, fold each in half lengthwise (hot dog style), and glue the edges together to create thicker pieces.
– Roll each piece into small oval **pecan shapes** and glue them onto the pie.
4. COCONUT CREAM PIE
– Use **yellow or brown** for the base filling layer.
– Add a **cream felt layer** on top, slightly larger and loosely glued to give a raised, fluffy look.
– For the coconut shreds, cut **light and dark brown felt scraps** into small slivers and glue them on.
– For extra durability, cut **tiny slits** into the cream layer and **insert thicker felt shreds** before gluing. This helps the pie keep its shape in storage.
5. CHOCOLATE CREAM PIE
– Use **dark brown felt** for the filling.
– Add a **white whipped cream dollop** (made the same way as the pumpkin pie).
– Glue small felt “chocolate sprinkle” pieces on top for texture.
6. BANANA CREAM PIE
– Use **light yellow or cream felt** for the filling. I did a cream layer on top of yellow since the cream was a little translucent.
– Add a white felt whipped cream dollop in the center (same technique as pumpkin).
– Cut **small cream-colored felt circles** for banana slices and use a **permanent marker** to draw banana details before gluing them around the whipped cream.
7. BLUEBERRY PIE
– Use **dark blue felt** for the filling.
– Cut a **decorative lattice or open crust detail** from light brown felt and glue it over the top.
– Add small felt “blueberries” if you want extra dimension.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
– **Use the same crust base** for every pie so the garland looks cohesive.
– **Mix felt thickness.** Use stiff felt for structure and soft felt for fillings.
– **Add dimension.** Raised whipped cream or loose layers make the pies look more realistic.
– **Store flat.** These keep their shape best when stored between sheets of paper or felt.
